The Grandpa Fair Of The South

Howdy Folks,

Alexandria is home to the DeKalb County Fair, known affectionately to locals as "The Grandpa Fair of the South". One of the oldest running fairs in the United States, the fair has been offering old-fashioned fun and good-natured competition since 1856. Although the fair has progressed with the technology age promoting online registration and news the end of the day, there's always a blue ribbon waiting for the best tomatoes, finest cow, and the prettiest beauty queen.

"Going to the local fair has been a favorite “must do” for the young and young at heart for a very long time. It’s good, clean, family-fun at it’s finest. Bringing your children to experience all of the fun things the fair brings to town, gives them the same feeling that you had as a kid,” said Angie Meadows, Lions Pavilion coordinator. “It’s a special, highly anticipated week of summer where friends and neighbors come to have a great time.”

This year’s fair will offer a new event at the Lions Pavilion putting the spotlight on DeKalb County youth. The “Kidnation Talent Showcase” promises to become a favorite of all. Not a competition, this showcase will offer the opportunity for youth ages up to 18 to take to the stage and show the crowd their special talent. “Whether our participants decide to sing, dance, act or play a set of spoons, it’s sure to be a great show,” said Angie Meadows pavilion coordinator.

This year's pageants sponsored by DTC Communications. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night winners will receive a $50 cash prize from DTC!

Also at the Lions Pavilion, David Turner and friends will take the stage for a special performance on Tuesday night. These guys are always a big hit and full of fun.

So whether you're out with your friends, on a date with your sweetheart, or having a fun night out with your family...the DeKalb County Fair welcomes you back each and every year as you build your own traditions along with us. We'll see you every summer under carnival lights and the smell of popcorn, cotton candy and excitement.
