Alexandria is home to the DeKalb County Fair, known affectionately to locals as "The Grandpa Fair of the South". One of the oldest running fairs in the United States, the fair has been offering old-fashioned fun and good-natured competition since 1856.

Although the fair has progressed with the technology age promoting online registration and news the end of the day, there's always a blue ribbon waiting for the best tomatoes, finest cow, and the prettiest beauty queen.

"Going to the local fair has been a favorite ‘must do’ for the young and young at heart for a very long time. It’s good, clean, family-fun at its finest. Bringing your children to experience all of the fun things the fair brings to town, gives them the same feeling that you had as a kid,” said Angie Meadows, Lions Pavilion coordinator. “It’s a special, highly anticipated week of summer where friends and neighbors come to have a great time.

“New this year at the Lion’s Pavilion is the group “Fearless.” These dancing firemen will hit the stage Monday night after the Fairest of the Fair, and will be raising money for Camp Phoenix, a summer camp for children who are burned victims. So, enjoy the show and fill their boots with cash!

The Lip Sync Battle will be returning this year as well. Made famous by LL Cool J, Monday night’s competition, following “Fearless,” will offer a ton of entertainment as contestants will be performing to their favorite song vying for a place in Friday night’s finale where the winner will walk away with the Lip Sync Battle trophy and $250 cash! First runner-up will receive $150 cash with second runner up taking home a $50 cash prize. And who decides the winners? YOU DO!”

This year's pageants sponsored by DTC Communications. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night winners will receive a $50 cash prize from DTC!

So whether you're out with your friends, on a date with your sweetheart, or having a fun night out with your family...the DeKalb County Fair welcomes you back each and every year as you build your own traditions along with us. We'll see you every summer under carnival lights and the smell of popcorn, cotton candy and excitement.
